Our Commitment

The Door Forward CIC is committed to creating an inclusive experience for everyone. Accessibility is part of how we show care, create belonging, and reduce barriers.

We are working to make sure our website is usable for as many people as possible. This includes people who use screen readers, magnifiers, voice control, or keyboard-only navigation. We also aim to support neurodivergent users and people with visual or cognitive processing differences.

What We Have Done

We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) version 2.1, at level AA. These are international standards for making web content more accessible.

Here are some of the ways we have made our website easier to use:

  • Clear structure with headings and simple navigation
  • Alt text for images where relevant
  • Good contrast between text and background
  • Good colour contrast in banners and buttons
  • Added plain language summaries where helpful
  • Used clear, consistent headings and layout
  • Designed with screen reader and keyboard users in mind
  • Avoided auto-playing audio or flashing content

What We Are Still Working On

Accessibility is a journey. Some content or tools may not fully meet the guidelines yet. We are continuing to:

  • Review video captions and add transcripts
  • Test forms with assistive technology
  • Add audio to blog posts
  • High contrast
  • Text that can be resized up to 300 percent
  • Translations
  • Keyboard-friendly menus and links

Compatibility

This site is designed to work with:

  • Modern browsers (like Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge)
  • Mobile devices and tablets
  • Screen readers (like NVDA, JAWS, and VoiceOver)
  • Browser zoom (up to 300%) and high-contrast settings
  • Keyboard-only navigation

Legal Information

We aim to meet the standards of:

  • The Equality Act 2010 (United Kingdom)
  • The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG 2.1), level AA
